The Meddlesome Moth - A Gastropub Deluxe

Throughout my adult life, I've enjoyed good food and good beer with passion. Correction: I've enjoyed great food and great beer with passion. And I've frequented a number of well-known Dallas-Fort Worth bars/pubs/restaurants to do so. Places such as The Flying Saucer, The Cock & Bull, The Londoner (even when it was still on Greenville Avenue), The Dubliner, The Ginger Man, Trinity Hall, The Old Monk, The Idle Rich Pub, 8.0 and more.

Recently, my wife invited me to have lunch with her at the Meddlesome Moth. I had heard about the Meddlesome Moth from a couple of coworkers but had no concept of just how delightful a gastropub it is. That isn't a word I use frequently -- "delightful." But it really, really is.

The Meddlesome Moth is located at 1621 Oak Lawn, Dallas, TX 75207 in the design district. Upon crossing the threshold, my first impression was that this place is distinctly more upscale than I had expected. The decor is sleek and modern, punctuated with unique Texas art such as the three stained-glass windows from Dallas' original Hard Rock Cafe... contrary to the more antique or "traditional" decor of most of DFW's popular beer drinking establishments.

Yet, past that first blush, the Meddlesome Moth is casual and inviting. The staff is friendly, cheerful and helpful ... and they possess a deep knowledge and appreciation for the expansive selection of world class beers that they offer (as well as the tastefully stocked bar) and the eclectic, sophisticated menu.

You will find some of the expected beer-friendly menu items like hamburger and fish & chips. But don't expect them to be plain and boring. The menu directs you more to delicious dishes of mussels, lamb, "shin of beef", and even rabbit. The deserts are also not to be missed.

Do yourself a favor and make your way to the Meddlesome Moth if you are anywhere close to the design district.
